Types of Noun:
In reality, there are only two types of Noun, namely, Common Noun and Proper Noun. The rest are types of Common Noun. Let’s describe these two first.
Common Noun:
The Common Noun is naming something in general or something common for all. For example, girl, boy, book, and so on. Here, girl can be used for anyone. Similarly, book can be used for all the books.
Proper Noun:
The Proper Noun is naming something in particular or something that is used for some special entity. For example, Ibrahim, Malala, and Think and Grow Rich. Here, Ibrahim is the name of a particular boy or person, and Think and Grow Rich is the name of a particular book.
Types of Common Noun:
There are three types of Common Noun, which are General Common Noun, Collective Noun, and Abstract Noun.
General Common Noun:
This type of Noun can be used for some entity in general. Its examples include mosque, pen, city, etc.
Collective Noun:
The collective noun is naming some person or things together. It is used to denote something as a whole. For example, mob, jury, army, class, etc.
Abstract Noun:
Abstract Noun is naming something that is imaginary or that entity cannot be touched. This noun includes action, quality, and state. Nobody can touch these three, but can only imagine or feel them. For instance, life, beauty, anger, boyhood, etc.
Types of Collective Noun:
There are two types of collective noun, i.e. Countable Noun and Uncountable Noun
Countable Noun:
Anything which can be counted in definite numbers (complete numbers as 1, 2, 10). For instance, pen, mobile, car, etc.
Uncountable Noun:
A noun that cannot be counted is called Uncountable Noun. For example, water, rice, sand, etc. To count an uncountable noun we have to use the formula number + unit + uncountable noun. For example, 1.5 liter water or 5 kg rice, etc.
